A lot of this website is about language and words - not
this page. Photography is a hobby of mine and
these are a few of my recent photos and snapshots. Most have been
tweaked a bit in either Photoshop or with The Gimp - a free, open source
code alternative to Photoshop (did I mention that it is free?) Find it

Revolutionary Art Showing a Happy
Family
This is obviously a left-over bit of state propaganda that I
found on an alley wall in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province,
South China. Just a few meters away a woman was begging with
her daughter on the street - outside of a McDonald's
Restaurant. Economic and social change in China are coming
at a price. |
3 Happy Schoolgirls in Guangzhou
These three ran to the school fence to
yell 'Hello!' in English. They were thrilled to be able
to use their English. |

One of the things
to love about China
To quote thousands of tourist brochures, China
is a land of surprise and mystery. One of the things
I loved the best in China was the English used on
its signs. While the translations might be a bit
'fuzzy' sometimes, the meanings are usually clear and reflective
of the surrounding culture - in this case, a concern
with being neat and clean. |

A
favourite place in Canada
The Crowsnest Pass area of Alberta was
originally a coal mining area. Today, the coal is
too expensive to mine and all of the old mines are
rotting away. There is a kind of breathless beauty
to be found at these abandoned places that is hard
to describe. |
